Past Events and Activities

To date, the Official Community Plan project has engaged with more than 6,000 citizens since February 2010. Here is a summary of past Official Community Plan events and activities:

April to June 2011

From April to June 2011, Victoria citizens had an opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Official Community Plan. More than 1,300 citizens participated in 57 different events related to the OCP during this phase of engagement. Feedback received includes:

  • More than 300 people who attended one of four open house events
  • 75 people who attended a Feast with representatives from Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations, Victoria City Council and staff
  • More than 300 people who attended one of 10 information sessions held at coffee shops and community events around town
  • Input from close to 400 people who submitted written feedback or completed a feedback survey
  • Close to 200 people who attended a presentation to their Community Association
  • 400 people who met with staff and provided feedback on behalf of their organization or area of expertise. These groups included downtown service providers, seniors groups, business and development.
  • More than 100 youth who contributed ideas through facilitated workshops
  • Seven individuals who participated in Citizens Insight Councils 

February to June 2010

Victoria citizens shared their thoughts on Victoria’s future during several events and activities that took place throughout 2010. The information received includes input from:

  • Close to 3,000 people who participated in the Community Survey
  • More than 550 people who attended the first Community Forum at Crystal Garden in March
  • Input from 47 Community Circles involving over 300 people
  • 21 Victoria residents who participated in Citizen Insight Councils
  • 80 youth who contributed ideas and thoughts through facilitated workshops 
  • Meetings with representatives from 90 organizations across the city including community service providers, members of the business community, policy advisors, members of planning and development community, and seniors groups
  • Workshops with staff and City advisory committees
  • Presentations to over 400 people including youth, neighbourhood associations, and business groups
  • More than 200 people who attended the second Community Forum at Victoria Conference Centre in June
  • Close to 150 people who participated in the survey on Future Growth Options for Victoria

More than 4,600 people participated during this phase of engagement. This dialogue helped identify common values and ideas for future directions in areas such as housing, transportation, land use planning and the economy.
