Community Values

A set of common values emerged through the feedback received from the public during public engagement activities. These values have guided the draft of the new Official Community Plan:

Whole Systems Thinking

Planning will consider how the different parts of the city work together to affect the whole, including the environmental, social and economic dimensions of urban life and development.

One Planet Living

Planning will develop the city within an ecological footprint of one planet.

Integrated Planning

Planning will integrate the natural, built and human environment in all aspects of city building.

Community Capacity Building

Planning will strengthen the natural, human, economic, social and cultural resources of Victoria to build, develop and shape a resilient community.

Inclusivity

Planning will respect and respond to the perspectives, values and needs of all individuals and groups in Victoria.

Age-Friendly

Planning will anticipate the needs of citizens throughout their lives, from children to seniors, in urban growth and change.

 Access to Basic Needs

Planning will play a role in ensuring that all Victorians have access to basic needs, such as food, housing and services, and the requirements of daily life.

Strong Neighbourhoods

Planning will support and enhance the sense of place and community in the unique context of neighbourhoods.

Downtown Vibrancy

Planning will reinforce the regional role of Downtown Victoria as a vibrant, engaging centre for arts, culture and entertainment, tourism, business and employment.

Engaged Citizens

The role and input of Victorians will be valued and enabled in public processes and decisions.
