On August 26, Council approved a report outlining general directions and a new land use model for the updated Official Community Plan. The report was informed by input received in community engagement activities over the past several months.

Following Council direction, staff will prepare a draft plan in the fall for submission to Council in January 2011. Further public engagement will take place early in 2011, providing Victoria citizens an opportunity to provide more input on Victoria’s updated Official Community Plan once it is in draft form.

Feedback received by participants in community engagement activities over the past several months will help to inform a report presented to Victoria City Council on Thursday, August 26, 2010. Following Council consideration and direction, a draft plan will be prepared in the fall for submission to Council in January 2011.

Community feedback that will inform the report includes information received through two Community Forums in March and June, Community Circles, Citizens Insight Councils, two community surveys, as well as meetings with many community groups including community associations, youth, community service providers, members of the business community, and arts and culture groups. The feedback received from the public over the past five months has helped to develop four scenarios that describe possible growth directions for Victoria over the next 30 years. They will be discussed at the upcoming Community Forum June 25 and 26 at Victoria Conference Centre. If you aren’t able to attend, you can also tell us what you think by completing an online survey

The schedule of workshops for the upcoming Community Forum has now been posted.
The registration and information table will be open throughout the day. Individuals may drop in at anytime. Friday’s information and sessions will repeat on Saturday with the same material presented on both days. People may drop in and participate on either day or both Friday and Saturday.

The City of Victoria has recently completed the Draft Downtown Core Area Plan which reflects the community’s vision for an attractive, vibrant, pedestrian-friendly and economically resilient downtown core area. The plan will provide a key piece in the overall city vision that will be reflected in the Official Community Plan.
